Online Armor 5.x is incompatible with Windows 8

Online Armor 5.x is not compatible with Windows 8. During installation of OA 5.x on Windows 8 users will see a incompatibility message for OA. The same incompatibility message will be seen when a Windows system with OA installed in it is being upgraded to Windows 8.

Reason:
The DLL injection method used by the oahlp driver is incompatible with Windows 8 and hence when an attempt is made to install & start this driver, Windows 8 displays an error message stating "Driver blocked due to incompatibility".

Solution/Workaround:
Use Online Armor 6.0 or later instead which fully supports Windows 8.

Online Armor Banking Mode will not work with anti-virus applications that use proxies for content filtering if that anti-virus application is excluded in Online Armor

If your anti-virus solution uses a proxy to implement its web or email scanning capabilities and you excluded your anti-virus software in Online Armor then the Banking Mode may have no affect.

Reason:
Banking Mode essentially controls which servers your browser is allowed to access. This is done by monitoring all name resolutions and HTTP requests performed by your browser of choice. When your anti-virus uses a proxy for content filtering though those name resolutions and HTTP requests are no longer performed by your browser but by the anti-virus software instead. This means Online Armor would have to restrict the requests and actions performed by your anti-virus but because you excluded it Online Armor won't do that. As a result Banking Mode is effectively disabled in those situations.

Solution/Workaround:
If you are using an anti-virus software that uses a proxy to filter mails or web downloads make sure to not exclude it in Online Armor. If this isn't possible you may want to disable the content filtering in your anti-virus software before performing any tasks you wish to use the Online Armor Banking Mode for.

Google Chrome is unable to connect if used in Sandboxie

In case you are using Online Armor, Chrome and Sandboxie at the same time you will notice that Chrome will be unable to connect to any webpage.

Reason:
By using Online Armor in conjunction with Chrome started within Sandboxie you are creating a dead lock situation where essentially every application is preventing the other two applications from communicating correctly. This is a typical example of stacking too many security applications with similar purpose and implementation on top of each other which in general should be avoided at all costs.

Solution/Workaround:
This problem is fixed in Online Armor 5.1 and later. If you are using a previous version of Online Armor you may want to either exclude Google Chrome in Online Armor or drop Sandboxie and rely on Google Chrome's integrated sandbox.

The Online Armor Web Shield may not work in combination with Sandboxie, Trusteer Rapport or PrevX SafeOnline

Online Armor may not be able to apply restrictions to browsers that are running with or within any of the aforementioned applications.

Reason:
The aforementioned applications prevent Online Armor from installing certain hooks that are required in order to apply the Web Shield restrictions correctly.

Solution/Workaround:
There are no known solutions or workarounds except dropping either the Online Armor Web Shield or the aforementioned application used.

Virtual machines using bridged networking are unable to access the network with Online Armor installed

If you are using virtual machines (VMware, VirtualBox, Parallels) with bridged network devices those network devices will be unable to connect while Online Armor is running.

Reason:
Online Armor is unaware of the bridged network devices and will therefore drop all packets sent from or to those devices.

Solution/Workaround:
There currently is no solution or workaround for this issue. If you can, use NAT or any other non-bridge based networking mode instead.

Running an application as "run safer" with the green border indicator enabled on Windows Vista and later will disable Aero for that application

Online Armor will disable Windows Aero for all applications that it starts in "run safer" mode if the green border indicator is enabled.

Reason:
The way Online Armor adds the green border is incompatible to the compositioning effects used by Aero.

Solution/Workaround:
As of now there is no known solution or workaround except disabling the green border indicator.

Online Armor is incompatible with Virtual Box when installed on the host system

Installing Online Armor on a system that has Virtual Box installed will cause a blue screen.

Reason:
The blue screen is caused by improper parameter validation inside the Virtual Box network driver when releasing NDIS related memory.

Solution/Workaround:
Because the problem isn't caused by Online Armor directly, there is no way for us to fix it. The only way to use Online Armor at this point is to uninstall Virtual Box and switch to another VM solution.
