My problem was caused by a conflict with files from previous versions of Emsisoft products.
Fabian logged into my machine using TeamViewer and deleted the files. Now all is well.
Install TeamViewer on your computer (if you don't already have it installed) then ask the Emsisoft support staff to perform the clean-up for you.

Not a problem. Now ?
I downloaded EIS,
I then removed the current installation, restarted the computer twice, then installed the downloaded file.
The installation froze and eventually had to be stopped via Task Manager.
My guess is that the install failed whilst attempting to add the Emsisoft Network Filter.
I have uninstalled 5631. I still have the install for 5561 but am reluctant to install it since it will in all likelihood automatically update itself to 5631 as part of the install <sigh>
Has the beta now gone live as release 5631 ?
Having received version 5631 I restarted the computer.
When EIS failed to start the firewall - even manually - I restarted the computer once again, then went looking.
I noted that the Emsisoft Protection Service had not started (even though set to 'Automatic') so I attempted to start the service manually. The service refused to start, reporting the following error message: "Windows could not start the Emsisoft Protection Service service on Local Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."
I also noted that the Emsisoft Network Filter was missing from the network adapter properties. I was able to correct this issue by following your instructions to add the service to the adapter.
I then restarted the computer once again. The Emsisoft Protection Service still refuses to start (generating error 1075).
OTOH the Emsisoft Network Filter is now installed.
And EIS now refuses to start at all.

Does the beta reduce interaction with downloading / streaming files ?
If yes it may be worth the trouble: if not I think that I will give it a miss.
What do you suggest ?
The scheduled scan completed without incident.

The machine on which EIS is installed is, as per my details, running Windows 7 Ultimate.
I followed your instructions to update to the current beta version of EIS.
Unfortunately EIS refused to start - due to a process not running - so I ended up uninstalling the beta version & reinstalling the current release version.
NB: The update to beta did not install the Emsisoft Network Filter. Was this intentional ?
I noticed that the last signatures update had taken place last night, so I rebooted the computer and performed a manual update.
I was then able to perform a full system scan,
The next system scan is scheduled for tomorrow, so here's hoping !
The above message popped up shortly after EIS was unable to complete a scan of my PC, this even though I made several attempts.
Your guidance would be appreciated.
PS I was able to complete a scan with Malwarebytes without incident.

I am current running version 5561 of EIS, reinstalled on the 2nd August.
Problem 1: No Internet access on computer start
Problem 2: "Interrupts" process hits 50% CPU utilisation during downloads causing machine-wide hassles
Any assistance appreciated

As I mentioned in ratman's thread, I have experienced a similar problem with NNTP downloads in the past couple of weeks.
Using "Process Explorer" I was able to identify that the Emsisoft Network Filter (in the network adapter properties) was causing the "interrupts" process to take > 50% of the CPU.
This was confirmed by disabling the Emsisoft Network Filter: when disabled everything worked normally.
My solution was to delete - then reinstall - Internet Security, something that has unfortunately not worked for you.
OTOH it may be worth testing with "Process Explorer" as a means of identifying the problem.

Only the ping rule needed to be changed.
I turned the firewall off, then on again. Both ping & and tracert still fail.
The network is defined as a home network.
Oops - I made a mistake attaching the file.
Herewith the document
I reselected the Emsisoft Network Filter and set the rules as instructed.
Both the ping and tracert still fail.
Please view the attached and tell me where I am going wrong.
BTW is there any other rule that might have caused the slowdown in my downloads ?

My download speeds - normally rock-solid between 2.0 MB/sec and 2.1 MB/sec - have suddenly dropped to around 500 Kb/sec, sometimes as low as 372 Kb/sec.
In attempting to determine the problem I found that I was unable to either ping or tracert any site, e.g. Google.
In checking my network configuration I noticed the entry "Emsisoft Network Filter".
Recalling that I had to restart my computer a couple of days back in order for an Emsisoft update to take effect, I unselected the network filter / reset the network adapter / restarted the modem etc.
I am now able to ping and run a tracert. However, my download speeds remain low e.g. 1.3 Mb/sec.
