  1. I have a potential workaround for the issue, but it hasn't been tested yet. I posted it in the forum topic that joe53 linked to, however I did not post step-by-step instructions for making it work.

Batch files are in attached ZIP archive (one that sets the timeout to 60 seconds, one that sets it to 120 seconds, and one that deletes the workaround): Your computer will probably need to be restarted after running one of these batch files, and you will need to right-click on a batch file and run it as administrator or it will not be able to change the registry entry it needs to edit. Also, please be aware that this changes the timeout for all services on your computer, and not just the Emsisoft Anti-Malware service. It is best to delete it once our developers have been able to fix this issue.
  3. Our developers believe it is just the Host Rules (the list of malicious websites to block) that has grown too large. The amount of RAM your computer has is fine, however the 1.83GHz processor (especially if it is a laptop) would probably be too slow for our current Host Rules. Microsoft does appear to have instructions on how to do that at this link. I will look in to creating a batch file that can automate the process.
  4. Based on what I am reading from a quick Google search, this [email protected]@@k.dll file appears to be a keylogger. Lets use Emsisoft BlitzBlank to delete it. Please download Emsisoft BlitzBlank from this link, and be sure to save it on your desktop. Please also download the attached BlitzBlank_Script.txt file, and save it on your desktop as well, then follow the instructions below: Launch the Emsisoft BlitzBlank that you saved on your desktop. When it warns you that BlitzBlank is intended to be used by experts or with expert guidance, go ahead and click the 'OK' button. In the middle near the top you will see 4 small icons. Click the one on the left that sort of looks like a little folder with a piece of paper sticking out of it, and open the BlitzBlank_Script file you had saved on your desktop to load it into BlitzBlank. Click the "Execute Now" button in the lower-right hand corner to process the removal script. Your computer will need to be restarted to complete the removal process, so please allow BlitzBlank to restart your computer when it asks.
  5. 127.0.0.1 is an address that always points to the computer the software is running on (the alias for this is 'localhost'). rts.sparkstudios.com has a poor rating on Web Of Trust, mostly for spam but some have rated it for malware as well. It is not listed in hpHosts, VXVault, or Malware Domain List.

  10. RTF files are not efficient for data storage. A database file, such as SQLite, would be far better and faster. So would XML, but I doubt Andrey would want to rewrite OA to save data in XML format. I believe that the information takes a while to load because it is being pulled from the service's memory rather than from a file, however I would have to confirm that with Andrey to know for sure.

  12. If you right-click on that extra Network Connection and go to 'Properties', does it have OA Helper Driver in the list?
  13. ZIP file scanning is only a part of BitDefender's scan engine, and it should only be used when running an on-demand scan of your computer. I do not believe that the Outlook add-in has ZIP file scanning integrated into it.
  14. Yes, for the vast majority of users, the issue seems to disappear after a reboot. Chances are it will come back eventually, and if possible it would be nice to get some Debug Logs. Please let us know if you do experience any further issues.

  17. We have determined that this issue is related to our Host Rules. On certain computers running Windows 7 (specifically slower computers such as netbooks, or ones that are older or having performance issues for other reasons) the Emsisoft Anti-Malware service does not start in time, and the Windows system that controls services terminates the service because it took too long to start. It is possible to replace the Host Rules with an older (and smaller) version to temporarily get Emsisoft Anti-Malware working again, however please note that once Emsisoft Anti-Malware updates its database it will download a new copy of the Host Rules, and if you restart your computer you will once again not be able to start Emsisoft Anti-Malware. If you want to try this workaround to the issue in order to get Emsisoft Anti-Malware working again, then you would either have to leave your computer on all the time (at least until we are able to release a fix for the issue), or you would need to disable automatic updates in order to prevent the Host Rules from being updated. If you would like to try the workaround, then I have attached an older version of the Host Rules (host_rules.zip) to this message. You can simply save it on the desktop of the computer that is having the issue, and follow the instructions below: Right-click on the host_rules file you saved on your desktop, and select to extract it.   24. The idea is that a trustworthy domain would not be on the same server as an untrustworthy domain, however it has been known to happen. Certain server hosting companies do not enforce their server hosting policies.
