  1. Hi Arthur, Those two are active, I also have the free version of Malware bytes which doesn’t have real time protection and is just used occasionally to scan suspect files. This is the same set up as my XP machine that boots up just fine. Attached might help.
  2. About a week ago my windows 7 machine has shown a blank screen after loading Windows, it takes about 30 seconds before the desktop appears. Uninstalling OA cures the problem – reinstalling it brings it back. MS Defender is excluded in OA and OA excluded in MS Defender.
  3. Thanks Arthur, the problem was that I allowed all autoruns on the assumption this would speed up the pc and as it was a new one their wouldn't be any nasties in it. This time I left everything at default but added the exclusions. Should I allow any processes apart from those set upas default? Thanks OG
  4. Attached are some event viewer files and the OA history files, hope they can resolve the problems. The .txt files need to be renamed to .evtx files
  5. I tried to run msconfig but couldn't. After a couple of restarts and again trying to run msconfig had he BSOD. Rebooted but BSOD again, it timed out and this time I was able to run msconfig to restart in safe mode and restore to before OA wa installed. Have spent about 3 hours trying to get OA to work, are there any files I can send to try and get OA to work? I'm sending this from my XP machine until I can get the Win 8 machine to work again.
  6. Windows 8 all updates as per today. Installed various freeware programs which are known to work on XP. Then instaled OA, excluded Defender and excluded OA in Defender. Task manager will not start so have to sign out to be able to use the PC, a new Lenovo G5050s
  7. Thanks Arthur, it worked fine, that set of updates has seemingly caused lots of problems elsewhere
  8. This happened to me on my wife's windows 7 machine and on my XP machine. It took me all day to investigate XP including a full system restore. On XP I have had to uninstall OA. On her machine I did a restore and then used msconfig and unticked nearly all the non microsoft programmes. This appear to work for her. Running mssecurity essentials on both.
  9. After installing the latest XP upgrades there were no icons or task bar and ctrl alt del did not bring up task manager. I had to hard reset the PC and go into safe mode to restore XP to an earlier time to get my user account working again. I downloaded some of the updates and the same thing happened again. I tried installing updates a couple at a time, same thing. I then uninstalled OA and downloaded and installed all the updates without a problem. I installed OA from a fresh download and once again no icons or task bar so another reset and safe mode to uninstall OA. Anyone else seen this? I noticed these recurring error in the XP logs. The COM+ Event System failed to create an instance of the subscriber partition:{41E90F3E-56C1-4633-81C3-6E8BAC8BDD70}!new:{58FC39EB-9DBD-4EA7-B7B4-9404CC6ACFAB}. 10. This programme opens a new Firefox window to check if there is an update available. I have blocked the programme .exe VideoConverter.exe in the firewall but it still continues to open the new window. What have I missed? Thanks OG
  11. Thanks very much for the advice, I have now done that. Cheers OG
  12. In the programs window no programmes are shown as untrusted. Microsoft malware protection is shown in the trusted programmes list. I noted the time taken before all my icons appeared after signing in to windows, it was a minute and a half. Update. 13. Thanks, here is the log from bootup, at the moment all the programmes are trusted, I used regedit to remove any last traces of Zonealarm, there were a couple of bits left in the registry.
