  1. C:\WINDOWS\system32\Hook.dll Is a malicious file. Only files with the extensions of txt, log, pdf, rtf, rar and zip can be attached. Attachments of archives containing suspected malicious files are highly discouraged. We don't want unsuspecting users downloading and opening archives that contain malware. You should complete all the scans in the thread I linked to earlier. Malware almost never travels alone, there could be more malicious files on the system.
  2. Yes, the atapi.sys file you attached to your first post is the legitimate Microsoft atapi.sys for Windows XP SP3

  4. dat files are absolutely useless. This is a Malware Removal support forum. In order for me to analyze what was quarantined I need the quarantine list not a dat file.
  5. Follow the instructions I posted previously, and stop cluttering this thread with posts that do not move this case to completion. If I see something of concern, I will tell you.

  9. You should not be installing and running tools and applications, without expert advice, to remove a perceived threat, when was highly likely to be a False Positive detection. You can cause far more harm to your system then a malware infection is designed to cause. ----------------------------------------------------------- That is because ISeeYouXP contains no trojans. Avira has yet to correct these False Positive alerts despite many requests to do so.----------------------------------------------------------- The installed version of Java on this computer is out-dated. Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u17 available from Sun Microsystems. ----------------------------------------------------------- Using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel; uninstall the following: ----------------------------------------------------------- Run OTL.exe Copy/paste the following text written inside of the code box into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL :OTL PRC - C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe (Microsoft Corporation) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - No CLSID value found. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - No CLSID value found. :Files @C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TEMP:DFC5A2B2 @C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TEMP:5C321E34 @C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TEMP:A8ADE5D8 :Commands [purity] [emptytemp] [resethosts] [start explorer] [Reboot] Then click the Run Fix button at the top Let the program run unhindered, reboot when it is done Attach the new OTL log ( don't check the boxes beside LOP Check or Purity this time )
  10. ISeeYouXP will run, but fail to produce the log properly on your system; due to localization. We will use OTListIT instead of ISeeYouXP. Download -->> OTL <<-- to your desktop. Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output. Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check. Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. Note: These logs can be located in the OTL. folder on you C:\ drive if they fail to open automatically. Attach both logs with your next reply.
  11. Your logs show no malware. Aveyond is written using RPG Maker XP. I have no reason to believe that it is infected or contains malware; as my investigation of the installer shows it to be clean. Often times programs that are built with tools such as RPG Maker XP, are incorrectly identified as containing malware or malicious rumors are spread saying the program is infected. When in fact the program does not contain malware.
  12. Run Avenger Read the prompt that appears, and press OK Copy & paste the following text in Input script Box: Registry values to delete: HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run | funk Files to delete: C:\WINDOWS\funk.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\funk.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\funk.exe Then click "Execute". You will be presented with 2 confirmation prompts. Select yes on each. Your system will reboot. Note: It is possible that Avenger will reboot your system TWICE. Upon reboot, a command prompt window will appear on your screen for a few seconds, and then Avenger's log will open. Please paste that log here in your next post. ----------------------------------------------------------- Attach fresh logs for: Avenger (C:\avenger.txt) ISeeYouXP Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!
  13. The atapi.sys detection may be a False Positive, but it could be infected as well. There is a TDss RootKit variant that infects Windows system files.
  14. Log into your "Administration Account" press CTRL+ALT+DEL. When Task Manger opens, click on the "New Task..." button. Type "explorer.exe" in the box and click "OK". You should now have a desktop. Scan with a-squared and attach the log. You should never delete or quarantine anything a security application says is infected, without first investigating the detection. Sometimes security applications will identify Windows components as infected and delete/quarantine the file rendering your system inoperable.
  15. Clean install may be the best course of action, seeing as the system was basically unprotected. We can attempt to clean the system, there is no guarantee that we will successfully reid the system of all malware. ----------------------------------------------------------- Download ComboFix from one of these locations: Save as Combo-Fix.exe during the download.
