Download ComboFix from Link

Save as Combo-Fix.exe during the download. ComboFix must be renamed before you download to your Desktop

!!! IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools
    See HERE for help
  • Double click on Combo-Fix & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: (This applies to Windows XP systems only) If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, ComboFix will produce a log.

Note:
1. Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall!
2. Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Attach logs for: (USE THE "MORE REPLY OPTIONS" BUTTON TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS)

  • ComboFix (C:\combofix.txt)

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Dear staff, I downloaded combofix to the desktop where it was saved by a different name. Below you find 2 log files. the first one (log1) was made with combofix and avira still on. Avira made a note saying that a program wanted to access the registry. Then I shut off avira while combofix was running. That is why i made a second run (log file 2)  with combofix, and now 'avira' (and also 'advanced system care') was off from the start.

Remark: Now its the first time I get messages on this laptop stating something like that I am going to use a non-secure internet connection and that the information may be accessible by others.

I hope this helps us further. Peter

Read carefully and follow these steps.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application.
    tdss1.png
  • Click Change parameters
    *
  • Check the boxes next to Verify Driver Digital Signature and Detect TDLFS file system, then click OK
    *
  • Click on the Start Scan button to begin the scan and wait for it to finish.
NOTE: Do not use the computer during the scan!
  • During the scan it will look similar to the image below:
    *
  • When it finishes, you will either see a report that no threats were found like below:
    tdss5.jpg
If no threats are found at this point, just click the Report selection on the top right of the form to generate a log. A log file report will pop which you can just close since the report file is already saved.
  • If any infection or suspected items are found, you will see a window similar to below:
    tdss7.jpg
    • If you have files that are shown to fail signature check do not take any action on these. Make sure you select Skip. I will tell you what to do with these later. They may not be issues at all.
    • If Suspicious objects are detected, the default action will be Skip. Leave the default set to Skip.
    • If Malicious objects are detected, they will show in the Scan results. TDSSKiller automatically selects an action (Cure or Delete) for malicious objects
    • Make sure that Cure is selected. Important! - If Cure is not available, please choose Skip instead. Do not choose Delete unless instructed to do so.

[*]Click Continue to apply selected actions. [*]A reboot may be required to complete disinfection. A window like the below will appear:
    tdss6.jpg
Reboot immediately if TDSSKiller states that one is needed. [*]Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should have already been created on your C: drive (or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. [*]Attach this log to your next reply.

If it only occurred the one time, you can probably safely ignore it. However, if it occurs again then you will want to figure what is causing the error.

Run a fresh scan with OTL, attach the new OTL log to your next reply.

Download dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip from: http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Blog_Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Unzip files and run cleanup_tool.exe

To remove .NET Framework 4 select .NET Framework 4 from the drop down.

This will safely remove .NET Framework 4 client. Once the cleanup tool has removed the .NET 4 files restart your computer and check windows update. You should find .NET Framework 4 client offered as an update. Download and install this.

Restart computer again and run windows update, install any .NET Framework 4 client updates available. You may need to repeat this a few times to get all updates.

My internet explorer seems to be corrupt. It crashed for the third time. the view has also changes today, the scroll bar on the left side is situated a little bit inwards (not far right as usual). You can onyl scroll by mouse wheel. Not by pointer and moving the mouse. If you try that the systems crashes. it gives the following error:

igdpmd64.sys  page_fault_in_non_paged_area,

any clue? i would re-install IE.

I removed IE9. Then I ran IE8 (which was still there obviously) and i could choose in one of the opened tabs to install IE10, which I did. However. it still has the same error, the scroll bar is just a little off (located one or two cm inwards). I didnt point the mouse in the area left open by IE10, because it will probably result in a page fault.  Any clue how to get rid of this?

Hi, I had to return to the restore point of 23 feb to get rid of the BSOD. I tried but removing ATI drivers and reinstalling new downloaded drivers didnt work out for me. Are we sure that we need windows repair by tweaking and dotnetfx. Fresh OTL is attached. What is the strategy now if I may ask?

Unless you have programs that require .NET 4 you can do without it.  I don't see any need to run windows repair by tweaking.

Run OTL.exe

  • Copy/paste the entire contents of OTLfix.txt (ATTACHED BELOW) into the Custom Scans/Fixes box located at the bottom of OTL.

Still have an Alternative Data Stream that is being stubborn.

Let's take a look a the system using a different tool.

Download avz4.zip from here

  • Unzip it to your desktop to a folder named avz4
  • Double click on AVZ.exe to run it.
  • Run an update by clicking the Auto Update button on the Right of the Log window: AVZupdate.jpg
  • Click Start to begin the update

Note: If you receive an error message, chose a different source, then click Start again

  • After the update, from the "File" menu, choose "Standard Scripts"
  • Put a check next to item 2: Advanced System Analysis
  • Click Execute selected scripts
  • At the next prompt, click the OK button
  • Let the scan run and click "OK" when the completion prompt pops up
  • Now Close out of the Standard Scripts window, and exit AVZ
  • Navigate to the avz4 folder and locate the folder LOG
  • Inside the LOG folder you will find virusinfo_syscheck.htm, virusinfo_syscheck.htm and virusinfo_syscheck.zip
  • Attach the Compressed file, virusinfo_syscheck.zip, to your next reply.

The AVZ log looks fine.

Changing tools.

Download Runscanner to your desktop and run it.

  • When the first page comes up select Beginner Mode
  • On the next page select Save a binary .Run file (Recommended) then click Start full scan at the top.
  • At this time Runscanner.exe may request access to the Internet through your firewall please allow it to do so, it will then run for two or three minutes.
  • On completion it will ask for a location to save the file and a name. It will do this for both the .run file and the log file
  • Call the .run file runscanner.run and save it to your desktop. You will see the .run file on your desktop. Zip runscanner.run and attach it to your next reply.

To create a Zip file in Windows:

    • Right-click on runscanner.run.
    • Select "Send To", and then click "Compressed (zipped) Folder". A new compressed file name runscanner.zip will be created.

Looks like you have several damaged services.

Let's see what we can do about that.

Download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center/Action Center
    • Windows Update
    • Windows Defender
    • Other Services
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Attach the log to your reply.

Ok, I did it all but....I get the message (translated)

'The Windows Defender-service on the local computer was started and stopped afterwards.

Some services  will stop automatic if they are not used by other services or programs.'

if I now open the service again, it says manual instead of Automatic delayed. And  it says status service is stopped

Let's try a different tool, and see what that shows us.

Download to your desktop OSAM Autorun Manager Portable from http://www2.online-solutions.ru/en/download_file.php?p=131115

This is a RAR archive and you will need a program like 7-zip, http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z464.msi to unpack the archive.

Install 7-zip

Right click on osam_autorun_manager_portable.rar, select "7-Zip" -> Extract to "osam_autorun_manager_portable"

Open osam_autorun_manager_portable, double-click osam.exe.

When OSAM begins to run, click "Next" until you get to "Close" then click on "Close"

Press the second button in the top menu ("Save Log" button).

The standard Windows "Save as" dialog will appear.

You need to save a report in the .log format (not .html).

Save the log file somewhere you can find it, zip the log file, and attach the zip archive to your next reply.
