Another person having problem with the freeze.com beasties

Recommended Posts

A couple of weeks ago I noticed some 'non typical' behavior on my Dell studio xps laptop, and when I attempted virus scans and malware types of downloads, I got blocked at every turn.

Went through all I could do, including booting from linux disks and scanning from there. To make a long story short, finally purchased new HDD (needed the space upgrade anyway), restored a month old system image to it, did several successful scans on both it and the (now externally mounted) old hard drive using Avast Free, plus several on-line checkers (ESET, Malwarebytes) and ran F-Secure rescue CD. All looked well, and several viruses were discovered and quarantined.

Next phase was to re-install old HDD back into laptop and restore the same system image to it. Did so, and then ran a couple of scans on it from within Windows. Looked okay. Before proceeding to the next step of migrating my system to the new HDD, I decided to run Emsisoft Kit. That was this morning and it picked up 8 files/entries connected with freeze.com.  Which led me to this forum.

Unfortunately, I attempted quarantining after running the scan, not having seen the directions on this site yet which say not to do that! 5 of the 8 entries are still un-quarantined. Attached are the requested files.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.

NOTE: It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.

If the tool needed a restart please make sure you let the system to restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.

The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Note: If the tool warns you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Unless you are having problems, it is time to do the final steps.

Delete the following from your Desktop: (If they exist)

Anything else I had you use

Delete the following folders: (If they exist)

Empty the Recycle Bin

Download to your Desktop:

- CCleaner Portable

  • UnZip CCleaner Portable to a folder on your Desktop named CCleaner
Run CCleaner
  • Open the CCleaner Folder on your Desktop and double click CCleaner.exe (32-bit) or CCleaner64.exe (64-bit)
  • The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:

  • Click 16jox2o.png and choose 5x3nu8.gif
  • Uncheck 2wlsw11.gif
  • Then go back to 2jb4qyb.gif and click nf47ev.gif to run it.
  • Exit CCleaner.
Turn off System restore to flush all your restore points then turn system restore back on. See How To Enable and Disable System Restore.

You can delete and uninstall any programs I had you download, that you do not wish to keep on the system.

Run Windows Update and update your Windows Operating System.

Run the Secunia Online Software Inspector, this will inspect your system for software that is out-of-date and in need of updating. Update anything program/application detected as being out-dated.
