OASRV.exe spiking and shutting down internet access.

Recommended Posts

Greetings.

I've been experiencing an intermittent issue with OASRV.eve for several months now.  It will -- seemingly at random -- spike up to a sustained 17%-20% of my CPU usage and hold it while completely shutting down internet access on the computer.  The only way to resolve it is to shut the computer down and reboot...and sometimes that even requires a hard reboot because it gets stuck on the "Restarting..." screen.  Most often it happens when logging into Steam or League of Legends video games.  The fact that it doesn't happen every time is the most frustrating part because it means I can't establish a specific pattern other than to say that there is some sort of association with those applications.

It has done this with every version and update of Online Armor that has been downloaded and installed over the last 6 months or so.  I'm currently on build 7.0.0.1886.
Computer specs:

i7 2720QM (2.20GHz)
16GB RAM
240GB SSD
Windows 8.0 Pro (x64)

To date, I have attempted known solutions including adding the Steam and Riot Games folders to my Exclusion list, along with Windows Defender.  None of the above solutions prevent this random occurrence.  I even added an the Online Armor folder to the exclusion list just for the sake of thoroughness.

This event happens at least 4 times/week.  That's at least 4 hard reboots on a computer that otherwise never needed reboots in general for the last 2 years of ownership, so it's pretty frustrating and jarring.  I'd like to keep Online Armor on my machine because when it's not locking up my computer it's great.  But this tends to happen at the worst times and there's no way to predict when it will happen.

I have uploaded my LOG files to my dropbox, which is linked below:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10844247/logs.zip

Hopefully you all will be able to help me with this one.  After several months, I'm just kinda at my wit's end.

Have you tried adding the Steam and League of Legends folders to the exclusions list in Online Armor? Here are some instructions for adding a folder to the Exclusions list in Online Armor:

  • Click on the Start button, go to All Programs, go to Online Armor, and click on the Online Armor icon to open it.
  • Click on Options in the menu on the left.
  • Go to the Exclusions tab.
  • Click on the Add button.
  • Use the little [+] and [-] icons to the left of folder names to open and close them, find the folder you want to add, click on it to highlight it, and then click OK at the bottom.
  • Close the Online Armor window.

Yes, both Steam and League of Legends are in the Exclusions tab, as per the opening post.

"To date, I have attempted known solutions including adding the Steam and Riot Games folders to my Exclusion list, along with Windows Defender.  None of the above solutions prevent this random occurrence.  I even added an the Online Armor folder to the exclusion list just for the sake of thoroughness. "

In fact, I have all of my games centralized in one main folder and that entire folder is in the Exclusions tab.

Well, if the option to include subfolders is selected on the exclusion, then we'll probably need some logs to see what the problem is. Please open Online Armor, go to Options in the menu on the left, click the little check box to enable debug mode, restart your computer, and then try reproducing your problem with your games. After that, please ZIP your entire logs folder (normally C:\Program Files\Online Armor\Logs), upload it to a website such as RapidShare/DepositFiles/BayFiles/etc (which one you use is up to you), and then copy and paste the link to download the file into a reply (or you can send it to me in a Private Message if you don't want the link posted publicly on the forums). Note that, if you don't have a utility such as 7-Zip, WinZip, or WinRar that you can ZIP files and folders by right-clicking on them, going to Send To, and clicking on Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Note that RapidShare and BayFiles have been having issues lately, and we may not be able to download the files from them. If you have DropBox, Google Cloud Storage, or Microsoft SkyDrive then those services would be more reliable. Also, you can attach files to private messages on these forums, and I would believe the limit is up to 128MB, so if the file is smaller than 128MB then you can just attach it to a private message to me on these forums.

I'm sorry, I didn't see the logs in the opening post. I'll pass them on to one of our developers, and see what he has to say about them.

Still hoping for a solution.  It's doing it again right now. :(

It's so good when it's working and just kills me when it freaks out like this.

It'll just sit there permanently.  I'm going to have to hard shutdown because that process will cause the computer to hang on shutdown.  Even if I End Task it.

It does seem true.Infact its firewall seems to affect my wireless network , and even it shows limited access. OA is hanging and I had to restart the system to get my wireless connections true.

You do know this isn't your forum topic, right?

Anyway, Dreams-Visions, I sent an e-mail to one of our developers yesterday. I haven't heard back from them yet.

Understood.  I'll keep refreshing a couple of times a day. :D

Sorry. Apologies. But the observation was sincere. No offence meant...

I thought you were replying thinking this was one of your topics.

I haven't heard anything yet. I'll send yet another e-mail, but I may have to pester the developer I'm trying to contact a little more directly.

I got a reply, and I noticed something that might be helpful.

What I noticed was the following file on my computer (and I just verified that that is where Steam's service runs from):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe
Do you have something similar on yours? You may need to exclude that folder as well.
