Kevin Zoll 309
Download AdwCleaner and save it on your desktop. Close all open programs and Internet browsers (you may want to print our or write down these instructions first). Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool. Click on the Scan button. After the scan has finished, click on the Clean button. Confirm each time with OK. You will be prompted to restart your computer. A text file will open in Notepad after the restart (this is the log of what was removed), which you can save on your desktop. Attach that log file to your reply by clicking the More Reply Options button to the lower-right of where you type in your reply. If you lose that log file for any reason, you can find it at C:\AdwCleaner on your computer. Download Junkware Removal Tool and save it on your desktop.Shut down your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall software now to avoid potential conflicts. Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, right-click it and select Run as administrator. The tool will open and start scanning your system. Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. On completion, a log is saved to your desktop and will automatically open. Attach the JRT log file to a reply by clicking the More Reply Options button to the lower-right of where you type in your reply. Kevin Zoll 309
One account is the Administrator account, one is yours and the other does not appear to exist anymore. Let's try this first. Copy the below code to Notepad; Save As fixlist.txt to your Desktop. Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1001\SOFTWARE\BONANZADEALSLIVE" /f Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1001\SOFTWARE\INBOXACE_1G" /f Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1002\SOFTWARE\INBOXACE_1G" /f Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-500\SOFTWARE\INBOXACE_1G" /f Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1001\SOFTWARE\SOFTONIC" /f Reg: reg delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1001\SOFTWARE\INSTALLCORE" /fClose Notepad.NOTE: It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work. ALEK 0
I noticed there are error messages in this fixlog. You said it's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location. I'm not sure I actually have a FRST64 file. I have the executable software that says FRST64, on my desktop. I still have the FRST.txt file from the 1st Farbar Recovery Scan on my desktop. I also have all the reports on my desktop from our work together. Should I be deleting these? What shall we try next? Thank you.
Kevin Zoll 309
This is the Administrator account: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-500The Admin account is hidden, by default, on Windows 8. See: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9650-built-administrator-account-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html to activate the Administrator account. This account does not appear to exist: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1001This is your User Account:HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2627636015-463021306-3799312992-1002Once you are logged into the Administrator account you can run the FRST fix from that account. You will need to have a copy of FRST64 and fixlog.txt on the Desktop on the Administrator account. Leave all the logs and tools where they are, until we are finished. ALEK 0
Thanks for the tip on my missing space. I was able to sign in as Administrator, and had FRST64 and Fixlist on the desktop. I pressed the Fix button. The Fixlog appears to be the same as the last time. What's next?
Kevin Zoll 309
It was the same fix, and I expected the errors it generated. The one line it removed is what I wanted to see. Run a fresh scan with EEK, attach the new EEK scan log to your reply

ALEK 0
Here are the folders under C:Users Administrator Alek Default:migrated Jeff Public I should not have a Jeff folder as he is no longer the owner of this computer. I wonder if I can just delete his folder. Thanks.
Kevin Zoll 309
Yes you can delete the folder, that is no longer an active User Id; and is safe to delete.
ALEK 0
I was able to delete all items in the Jeff folder except 2. These file names were long, and had double integral signs with an oval in the middle, throughout the file name. There was no option to delete, just to skip. Do you know how to delete these 2 files so the Jeff folder can be deleted? Also, do you have other tasks for me to do, since I gave you the names of the folders under C:Users? Thanks, Shadow. Kevin Zoll 309
Run a fresh scan with EEK, attach the new EEK scan log to your reply. You may need to take ownership of those items that would not delete. See: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2814-take-ownership-add-context-menu-windows-8-a.html
ALEK 0
Now... EEK only found 2 inboxace files. =) I took ownership of the 2 items that would not delete in the Jeff folder, but I still cannot delete these 2 files, either with my user name or the administrator. It probably is no big deal to have the Jeff folder remain in the user list, unless you think those files are potentially hazardous. I appreciate your very clear and easy to follow instructions. Looks like we're almost done.
Kevin Zoll 309
Look to see if InboxAce Internet Explorer Toolbar is installed, and it it is uninstall InboxAce.
ALEK 0
I do not see an InboxAce toolbar in Internet Explorer. In the Manage Add-Ons menu, under Toolbars and Extensions, I see InboxAce there, but it is 'Disabled'. The Publisher's name is 'not available'. I tried to delete it from there, but there is not a delete option, and the delete key does nothing. I did a search in my PC for InboxAce, and found it 3x. InboxAce_1g in C:\Program Files (x86) InboxAce_1g in C:\AdwCleaner\Quarantine\C\Program Files (x86) InboxAce_1gEl in C:\AdwCleaner\Quarantine\C\Users\Jeff\AppData\LocalLow I deleted each of these files and emptied my Recycle Bin. I did another EEK scan and attached the report. Only 1 InboxAce left in Registry. Any other ideas? Thanks.
Kevin Zoll 309
Copy the below code to Notepad; Save As FixReg.reg to your Desktop; make sure File Type: is set to All Files (*.*). Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\INBOXACE_1G]Close Notepad.Locate FixReg.reg on your Desktop. ALEK 0
When I double clicked on FixReg.reg it gave me this error message. 'Cannot import C:\Users\Alek\Desktop\FixReg.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.' Was I supposed to do this as an Administrator?
Kevin Zoll 309
Shouldn't matter whether it is run as Administrator or not. The patch is formated correctly. Delete the patch and created a new one, make sure you following the instructions. If the file type is not set correctly the patch will not be saved properly.
ALEK 0
I deleted the patch and created a new one. I followed all the instructions, and still get the same error message.

ALEK 0
I did your last task and successfully deleted that Registry key and it's contents. I did another EEK Smart Scan and no objects were detected. Wow! Thank you for all your help. I appreciate your patience, diligence and genius. Kevin Zoll 309
Yes, you can delete the items in quarantine. Unless you are having problems, it is time to do the final steps. Uninstall AdwCleaner: Close all open programs and Internet browsers. Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool. Click on the Uninstall button. Confirm by clicking Yes. Delete the following from your Desktop: (If they exist) AdwCleaner.exe Emsisoft Emergency Kit.lnk FixReg.reg FRST.exe FRST64.exe JRT.exe JRT.txt Anything else I had you use Delete the following folders: (If they exist) C:\AdwCleaner C:\EEK C:\FRST Empty the Recycle Bin Download to your Desktop: - CCleaner Portable UnZip CCleaner Portable to a folder on your Desktop named CCleanerRun CCleanerOpen the CCleaner Folder on your Desktop and double click CCleaner.exe (32-bit) or CCleaner64.exe (64-bit) The following should be selected by default, if not, please select: Click and choose Uncheck Then go back to and click to run it. Exit CCleaner. Turn off System restore to flush all your restore points then turn system restore back on. See How To Enable and Disable System Restore. You can delete and uninstall any programs I had you download, that you do not wish to keep on the system. Run Windows Update and update your Windows Operating System. Run the Secunia Online Software Inspector, this will inspect your system for software that is out-of-date and in need of updating. Update anything program/application detected as being out-dated.
