EIS Beta and Routers

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I am very happily using the Beta of Emsisoft Internet Security and am really thrilled about it. My brother will be staying with me the next couple of days and will need to hook up with my router for his laptop. I know he is not the most security conscious individual when it comes to computers. Will I be putting my PC at risk if I allow him to connect to my router? Thank you very much.

No, for two reasons: firstly, a router has an inbuild firewall itself usually and second the EIS firewall is between the router and your computer so to say, meaning that your brother's laptop would fall outside that area.

Of course, always ensure your router is protected adequately by changing the default router password, setting up wireless security (WPA2 is preferred) and turning off uPnP. For more information see this blog post.
