celaine 0
Are there some steps I need to take to shorten the length of time it takes to do an a-squared free scan? It takes hours. Is this normal?
Fabian Wosar 390
One way to drastically cut the scan time is to deactivate the scan of archives. Malware within archives is essentially harmless since it is not directly executable. There are some pretty large archives though on a normal Windows installation that will slow down the scan drastically. Other than that make sure there is no on-access scanner running in the background. Running on-access virus scanners while doing an on-demand scan will cause every file to be scanned at least twice. Because before we scan the file the file is scanned by the AV in the background first.
