Network adapter error after update from 5409 to beta 5514

Recommended Posts

Under Windows 8.1 - after installation of 5514 and reboot, the network icon reports no internet connection.

Checking the adapter shows that it has no IP address having failed to obtain one using DHCP as normal. Disabling and renabling the adaptor does allow it work correctly until the next reboot when it has failed again.

Uninstalling the beta allows the network to work correctly, while reinstalling the beta causes it to fail again.

When the beta is installed, can you try the following, and let me know if it helps?

  • Open Emsisoft Internet Security.
  • Click on Settings in the menu at the top.
  • Click on the Factory defaults button near the upper-right.
  • Make sure that only the option labeled Global firewall rules is selected.
  • Click the OK button to apply the changes.

I found the same issue on my 2 PCs after updating to 5514.

As reported in another post the workaround was to uninstall the EMSISOFT Network Filter Services (or to come back to 5409)

Yes, uninstalling the network filter driver will usually resolve all firewall related issues, since that is the driver that Emsisoft Internet Security uses to capture network traffic.

I take it that turning off the firewall didn't help?

I was unable to come back to this until now, but since my original post this seems to have fixed itself. I haven't needed to apply your suggested steps and the software version is still 5514. The problem was easily repeatable, so quite what has changed I don't know?

Thanks for your suggestion anyway, I will try and remember the defaults in future.
