Why another folder?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Yesterday I clean installed EAM 11.0.0.5958 (removing previous version)-

-because when you update had problems with the Desktop Window Manager!

However, all returned to normal, but I decided to install clean.

Three years of EAM is installed in the folder Program Files (x86)wink.png

But yesterday suddenly in the folder Program Files blink.png

is this normal?

This is a very unexpected!

5958 is a native x64 application now.   If you do a clean install it will install in Program Files as opposed to Program FIles (X86) which is for 32 bit programs.

Thank you, okay.

But how EAM would have worked if it was a simple update? Even on a 64-bit machine it would have continued to stand in Program Files (x86)?

whereas in fact it would be abnormal?

Probably, it was necessary to warn users of the need to perform a clean installation of this version?

If it was a simple update then the Emsisoft folder would have remained in Program Files (x86). There is nothing to be alarmed, as both folders only differ by name to show that the applications installed into them is 32-bit or 64-bit. Functionally they are the same.

It doesn´t matter where programs are installed.

You can install both 32 & 64-bit programs in the same folder., and you can also call it whatever you want.

Fx. i install all programs on another partition (E:\Programs).

There was no need to do a clean install. The issue you experienced was a bug in Emsisoft Anti-Malware that caused explorer.exe to crash when Emsisoft Anti-Malware would shut down (such as when restarting after installing a program update). This bug was fixed in the update on Monday, and you shouldn't see it happen again.
