Closed Help ... a second computer has become infected and crippled

An Avast warning came up saying a virus was found - I think it was JS: FakeWarn again. Also, a splash screen appeared for Antispyware Soft, a program I did not knowingly install. This is similar to what happened on my other infected computer.

Then a bunch of internet windows kept appearing, mostly for porn sites and such. (Note: I was not accessing porn when all of this started happening.)

A message appeared saying a virus was found on my computer; do I want to activate the antivirus or antimalware software, something like that. Another virus found warning, which had what resembled a Windows shield icon appeared at the bottom right of my screen, warning of a virus.

I couldn't keep these closed down. They kept popping back up.

Internet is unusable now on that computer.

Thanks for creating separate case regarding another PC as suggested

From your initial case for another PC you know the procedure and what log files to attach as a preliminary info for the malware fighter

Since your Internet is not working on this PC please try to do the following:

- probably it is better temporarily disconnect this PC from the LAN (& Internet);

- you may wait until the other case will be solved and that computer hopefully cleaned;

(the malware fighter will advise)

- If and when you have Internet access from another clean uninfected computer download all listed Utilities there. Save them on external media and then copy to your Desktop / install / run... as per the same instruction

note: Please copy (don't type) all referred links from the instruction so you will use precisely the sites suggested when downloading on another PC.

You can use Emsisoft Emergency USB Stick Files It can be run without installation from the USB stick

Just before attaching new Emsisoft Anti-Malware report - manually Update prior to the Deep Scanning as per instruction:

Run a-squared Free/Anti-Malware and do a full system scan. DO NOT quarantine or delete anything. I just want the scan log with out anything being quarantined or deleted.

Hi. I do have a laptop that's working. But, I had every program already downloaded onto a USB disk, and I moved them over to my newly infected desktop and installed the CCleaner and a-squared Free. No matter what I try to run, however, I get a message saying the program or file is infected with a virus and could not be run.

I even tried the Emergency USB version of a2free, with the same security alert. The program won't run.

I didn't attempt a2HighJack or ISeeYouXP, as I'm sure it will be the same result. Even when I try to safely remove my USB stick, I get a message saying that couldn't be done because rundll32.exe is infected.

This computer seems to be much worse infected than my other. The rogue AV software has actually installed itself on my computer, as I can see it's icon in my task bar.

Not sure what to do from here. Thanks for your help.

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Save as Combo-Fix.exe during the download. ComboFix must be renamed before you download to your Desktop

• Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

• Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  
• As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  
• Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, ComboFix will produce a log.

Note:

1. Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall!

2. Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Hi. Attached are the logs you requested. I ran ComboFix first, as nothing else would run initially. Then I ran the other three programs once ComboFix was complete. Things are running smoother, so far. Thanks.

The installed version of Java on this computer is out-dated. Install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u20 available from Sun Microsystems.

• I will ask for this log below

Note: DO NOT mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

The ComboFix folder should not be renamed since ComboFix and even we would have suspicions about it. Also when you uninstall CF, the folder would not be removed since it does not look for that folder name.

Attached are the documents you requested. The only problem I'm having now is when ComboFix was preparing the report, I got an error:

RUNDLL

Error loading C/WINDOWS/ezenokecik.dll.

Now when I restart the computer, that error comes up.

Other than that, it appears to be running OK.

Copy the contents of the below quote box to Notepad; Save As FixReg.reg to your Desktop; make sure File Type: is set to All Files (*.*).

Locate FixReg.reg on your Desktop. Double-click on it and answer 'Yes' when asked if you want to merge with the registry.

Your logs look fine.

Unless you are having problems from Malware it is time to do the final steps.

Now to remove most of the tools that we have used in fixing your machine:

• Make sure you have an Internet Connection.
  
• Download OTC to your desktop and run it
  
• A list of tool components used in the cleanup of malware will be downloaded.
  
• If your Firewall or Real Time protection attempts to block OTC to reach the Internet, please allow the application to do so.
  
• Click Yes to begin the cleanup process and remove these components, including this application.
  
• You will be asked to reboot the machine to finish the cleanup process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  

Delete everything in C:\!KillBox (If I didn't have you use KillBox, then this won't be present)

Delete the following from your Desktop (If they exist)

Avenger.exe

Avenger.txt

Avenger.zip

CFscript.txt

dds.scr

dds.pif

DisableAutoRuns.reg

fixes.bat

FixMe.reg

FixReg.reg

ISeeYouXP.exe

ISeeYouXP.lnk

Anything else I had you use

Delete the following files: (If they exist)

C:\Avenger.txt

C:\ComboFix.txt

Delete the following folders: (If they exist)

C:\Avenger

C:\AvoidTDSS

C:\ComboFix

C:\SDFix

C:\Qoobox

Empty the Recycle Bin

Run CCleaner

Turn off System restore to flush all your restore points then turn system restore back on. See How To Enable and Disable System Restore.

Inside the ISeeYouXP folder, locate and double-click HideIT.bat (C:\ISeeYouXP\HideIT.bat). This will return viewing of Hidden and System Files and Folders to the default settings.

Delete C:\ISeeYouXP

You can delete and uninstall any programs I had you download, that you do not wish to keep on the system.

Run Windows Update and update your Windows Operating System.

Run the Secunia Online Software Inspector, this will inspect your system for software that is out-of-date and in need of updating. Update anything program/application detected as being out-dated.
