How to Update to v 4.5.0.21

Recommended Posts

Hello new Emsi Support Forum

How do I update A2free v4.5.0.11 to v4.5.0.21. Update now does not update version.

Do I overwrite with v4.5.0.21. Do I uninstall v4.5.0.11. How do I perform a manual clean uninstall.

Do I have to disable A2 service. Does built in Uninstaller clean all remnants. Does the manual clean uninstall instruction from 2007 still apply today. Maybe there is a Knowledge Base link to all of this. I don't find a link from Support Forum to Knowledge Base. Logical to have all Support options available from Support Forum. Maybe a sticky with Support links.

Regards

bjm

Hi bjm,

Welcome to the new Forum.

Can you please be more specific?

What went wrong with the ordinary update (modules update) procedure in the 1st place?

But in any case ... yes - the old procedure of Clean Uninstall still applies and the new Setup can be downloaded from the site

Did you save the link for Clean Uninstall discussed previously or you need it now again?

My regards

All I get with Update now from the UI is Signatures...for A2free

Version does not Update...still v4.5.0.11 EMSI download page reports ver 4.5.0.21 available. How do I update product version.

This is old link I have

My link

Does A2free built in Uninstaller completely remove all A2free with no added steps.

How do I run the Uninstaller. Do I first Stop Local Service...Uninstaller...reboot?

Same questions for A2HiJackfree? How do I update product version. Update request reports ver3.1 is fully up to date.

Do not have link for manual uninstall for A2HiJackfree.

Does A2HiJackfree built in Uninstaller completely remove all A2HiJackfree with no added steps.

May I just overwrite with new version to update?

Should product module Update ... update Version?

HiJackfree Analysis reports current version 3.1.0.16 ~ used version 3.1.0.19 and EMSI download page reports ver 3.1.0.22 available.

Hi bjm,

That's a bit strange that modules were not updated in your case.

All were going smooth lately with that, but that should not be a big problem if you chose reinstallation.

Both Programs Should have entries in Control Panel > Add/Remove.

I would suggest to uninstall both from there; download new Setups and reinstall

The link for manual Clean Uninstall is correct and all steps should work,...

... but as I pointed earlier and as it's written in the referred link - use it only IF the normal procedure fails for some reason.

The only precaution before reinstalling - take care of those quarantined items that you think should be restored and rechecked. Other (genuinely detected) items can be left and they will vanish together with \Quarantine folder.

Finally, the additional step re: Stopping and Disabling the a2service before any type of reinstall never hurts despite the normal uninstall procedure usually is taking care of that.

My regards

P.S.

{I removed the whole quote. Lynx }

Sorry, I forgot rule #2

VistaSP2 32bit, IE8, FF3.5.3, NIS09, Secunia PSI, Sandboxie, A2free, A2HiJackfree, on-demand scanners WinDef, MBAM, SAS, A2, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.

So, if I understand your message. The product version should Update via the Update request. The fact that both my A2 products are not Updating version does not point to anything obvious. Might servers just be busy? I get signature updates for A2free and A2HiJackfree reports no updates.

Is reboot advised after running built in Uninstaller for each product. Any other advice comments thoughts.

Regards

bjm

Yes it should, but as I said the situation is not ordinary, therefore I would suggest reinstalling.

... Is reboot advised after running built in Uninstaller for each product...

Usually, if Reboot needed after either Uninstall or Install procedures that advice/notification is built in.

That is common rule for the most Software correctly written in this respect. So If you are not notified that is not necessary. That is the case with a2-Free.

The Restart of the program itself may be required when modules were delivered.

My regards

P.S. a side note: regarding "some other" Software /applying Patches, that failed to install/ etc. - you may find advices like "Please reboot twice!" after applying fixes even the installation does not openly say that ;)
