Did I download genuine Emsisoft Anti-Malware?

Hello,

Today, I went to download a trial of Emsisoft Anti-Malware from Emsisoft.com under the "For Home" heading,  and I ended up with just a small file.  (I'm sorry, but I can't remember the file name and I have since deleted it).  I looked up the file on Virus Total, and all engines said it was OK.  I ran the file on my desktop and it downloaded the Emsisoft Anti-Malware program, then installed the product.  (I was under the impression that when you downloaded the product from Emsisoft.com, you downloaded the whole program so that you could install it offline if you wanted to).

Once the product had been installed, I noticed that there was no desktop shortcut for the program, which was a bit weird.  I decided to uninstall the product and try the download again.  In "apps and features" (Windows 10), the uninstall file was weirdly named,  (a random bunch of numbers and letters together), and the program took a while to uninstall (2-3 minutes).  I rebooted and went to Emsisoft.com again.

This time, when I downloaded EAM from Emsisoft.com, the entire program downloaded (which I expected).  I installed it with no issues (desktop icon was created).  I was kind of spooked by the whole thing, so I decided to go back to my old PC security product.  When I uninstalled EAM the second time around, the uninstaller looked as I expected it to with the name of the product in the name of the file.  The uninstall procedure this second time was professional-looking compared to the first time.  It was also quicker.

I'm sorry that I will be of limiting help providing more details, as I have used Ccleaner since I uninstalled EAM, and I also have gone back to my old security product.  I just wanted your opinion on what you think might have happened on my first download/install of EAM.  (I've ran scans using Hitman Pro, Adwcleaner, and my current PC security product and nothing was found).

Thank you for your time.

(About my PC:  Windows 10, 64 bit with Fall Creator's Update).

Edit:  At the time of EAM installation, the only other security product installed was Hitman Pro on-demand scanner.

I regret that I was using Firefox at the time with settings to delete history on browser exit.  However, I feel fairly confident that I was on Emsisoft.com as I have it saved as a bookmark and that was how I navigated to the site to download EAM.  That being said, I was not thinking all that clearly this morning while I was installing EAM, so there is a slight possibility that I messed up the web address.

Hi GT500,

I also looked in my browser download folder, and I had already deleted the contents of that too.  I'm sorry that I can't be of much help with the details.  Upon reflection, I don't really know if there's much that you or anyone else can do given my lack of information to go on.  I probably just downloaded from the wrong site, as you mentioned.

I will no doubt be trying EAM in the future as I am pleased at the progress that Emsisoft is making with each update to their software.

Just an FYI: I've been told that what you downloaded was more than likely one of our new smaller installers that comes without the database. We want to see if people like the smaller downloads better, so we've been giving some people those smaller downloads. ;)

I don't think there are any set plans yet. We're just trying to get a feel for what people like best at the moment.

If you want a choice of what to download, then here's a list of what we currently have available (note that this list may change in the future):

Note that the MSI installers are a few megabytes larger than the EXE installers (probably due to the differences in compression used). Download sizes will vary as changes are made to EAM and our signature files, which is why I didn't list them here for most of the installers.
