Alejandro
Hello; my log is showing a number of "Auto-Silent mode disabled" and enabled alternatively; is it normal?
JeremyNicoll
It's normal if you've been going in and out of full-screen, eg for games, or viewing films or tv.

Correct. Even watching YouTube videos fullscreen can do it.
LodeHere
That made me curious enough to ask: What does Auto-Silence mode do? Or what is the difference between it being enabled or disabled?

Or what is the difference between it being enabled or disabled? It suppresses all notifications, prevents updates from being installed, and prevents any scheduled scans from running until Silent Mode is turned off. This is done to prevent interruption of a fullscreen game or fullscreen video. The behavior can be changed for each of these in Emsisoft Anti-Malware, such as if you don't want updates to be paused when Silent Mode is on. dkds
even if silent mode is disabled on workspace and locally?

You can turn off the various effects that Silent Mode has, however you can't actually prevent Emsisoft Anti-Malware from enabling Silent Mode. If you disable all of the things that Silent Mode does, then it just does nothing when it turns on automatically.

Emsisoft Anti-Malware enters Silent Mode when a fullscreen application is open (games, videos, etc). By default Silent Mode will prevent updates, suppress notifications, and prevent scheduled scans from running in order to prevent these features from disrupting a user's activity on the computer. If you disable all of these, then Silent Mode will do nothing when it activates.

Thanks You can turn Silent Mode on and off yourself, that way if you don't want notifications/updates/scheduled scans to interrupt you and you're not using a fullscreen application then it gives you a method to turn it on and off yourself. JeremyNicoll
@GT500 I think you're failing to answer the question: what's the point of being able to turn Silent Mode on/off, when that mode will do nothing because its various features have been turned off individually. Perhaps the GUI should disable the mode's on/off button when Silent Mode would achieve nothing?

That would add unnecessary complexity to the application's code for handling Silent Mode, and the potential for new bugs in a feature that is working and otherwise needs no real maintenance.
