mY1024emsiU
Have been using Emsisoft for years. mY1024emsiU
No. The icon stopped appearing when the license expired yesterday. The Task Mgr shows an Emsisoft Protective Svc. Had already tried End Task on that, but still could not uninstall EAM.
stapp
Perhaps a try of booting into Windows safe mode and seeing if you can move things along that way?
grayskull
This is another bug that QA should look into. When trial expires, the admin pass is still engaged but it is not asking the user for the pass when he wants to uninstall.

grayskull
Hello Arthur, I was just trying to help out the OP since he said he is being restricted during uninstall after his trial expired. So his did not revert to freeware mode and during uninstall he does not seem to be asked for his admin pass. That should be looked into by QA. I think it's intentional that uninstall is restricted until the password is removed. Passwords are set by administrators to prevent uninstall and altering of settings. JeremyNicoll
But clearly there would be no security breach if the uninstaller asked for the password.

New Today 04/20/20 mY1024emsiU Sorry for the delay continuing here, but now having to use a different machine. In answer to stapp's last question, yes, I tried uninstall EAM in safe mode but failed. Eventually tried system restore to earlier time (before EAM expiration) from there, in Safe Mode, when tried uninstall EAM again, error msg file "C:\Program Files\Emsisoft Anti-Malware\unins000.msg is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program" So it appears that if I buy EAM again, I might be able to uninstall it?
mY1024emsiU
Is this typical for EAM users, that the uninstall fails if their subscription has expired? Or is my situation perhaps, unique?
JeremyNicoll
In my install of EAM the file unins000.msg looks like it contains just the message literals used by the [un]installer program (which seems to be Inno Setup). On my system the uninstaller unins000.exe and a data file unins000.dat also exist, and all three of them have the same date and time stamps, which for me are 28 Sept 2017. It might be that if you can check that you have the .dat and .exe files, and say what date/time stamps they have, that someone (though it would be best if that someone was Emsisoft) with the same version could send you a copy of their .msg file. On the other hand if you also don't have the .dat file, that - for all I know - might not be the same on every system.

It's normal for the System Restore to break things, as it reverts certain things back to older versions, but it doesn't revert everything. BTW: In case it wasn't already obvious, I'm not going to explain how to bypass the administrator password in a public forum topic. If you need help with this, then you should contact support privately via e-mail. Or check your private messages here on the forums.
mY1024emsiU
My access to the internet w/ this alternate machine has been intermittent for non-related reasons, so again, sorry for the extended delay to followup here. The laptop at issue has been set aside until a reinstall of the OS can be done, unfortunately. I was using Emsisoft Anti-malware Home To my recollection, System Restore was tried as a last resort, after uninstall failed in normal mode and Safe mode (as I said in Apr 20 Post). It would have been nice if there had been some sort of support that would have repaired the app so it would allow me to enter the app password that I had setup, to complete a clean uninstall of EAM. The reason for my earlier quote that may have sounded frustrated, was partly because one of the messages I received during my uninstall attempts that I mentioned 20 Apr said-----"....Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program".... I assume, but don't know for sure, that if I had uninstalled EAM a couple of days earlier, before my license expired, maybe all would have run smoothly. Anyway, thanks for your time here. mY1024emsiU
05/19/20 RE May 12, 2020 post from GTE500. I don't know anything about the mistake mentioned regarding support topic hijack. I did receive one inbox message from GTE500 on May 12 and wish I could have been able to try those steps weeks ago, before the OS went catastrophic. Although a customer of EAM since Nov, 2015, at this time we do not wish to continue. Thanks again for your time. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
