Combine signature files into one file

Recommended Posts

Hi. Why don't you combine small signature files in one file? It would be updated so faster and copied to the flash drives, and there would be no fragmentation on the disks, , and they would be read faster.. 2-25kb signature files on flash drives are very slowly copied.

Actually it would take longer, as the files have to be decrypted and then unpacked in order to be updated, then repacked and encrypted before writing the changes back to the file, and merging a bunch of small files into one means significantly more time spent doing those CPU intensive steps. Especially since we don't update all of the database files at the same time. Lower end systems (there are still a significant number of dual core systems on the market even today) would be bogged down by this, and extending the amount of time it takes would make for a very unpleasant user experience.
