No updates since the release of version 5.1.1.1383

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Since the release of version 5.1.1.1383, OA has not found any blacklist/whitelist updates. I set the option to "Every day" but even when I manually check for updates OA says that it's up to date - and it used to find at least one update per day with the previous version.

Has any sort of blacklist/whitelist update become available since October 24th?

Thanks for the reply, Fabian.

I'm using the free version. Automatic updates are set to "every day" but there's no trace of white/black list updates in the History - OA checks for updates but since the release of version 5.1.1.1383 it has not found anything and when I manually check it says it is up to date.

System Information:

Win XP Pro SP3

Avast! Free AV 6.0.1289 (Behaviour/Script Shield removed)

Online Armor Free 5.1.1.1383 (Web Shield disabled)

HostMan/HostsServer 3.2.73 (MVPS HOSTS)

Norton DNS v2

*Avast!/OA mutually excluded

This could very well be just a problem of the log keeping. Can you compare the MD5 hashes of your a2trust.dat and a2wl.dat to those 2 files?

fcbaeda2193291712a7158f353052d87 a2trust.dat

6a95177227400662de8178550075ca97 a2wl.dat

If you don't know how to get the MD5 hash of a file I would suggest to just upload those files to VirusTotal because it displays the MD5 as part of the scan result page.

I seem to be having the same issue with the current free version of OA.

a2wl.dat comes back as  ff88d2f07212338473d26c1a879f99eb

a2trust.dat  comes back as  fcbaeda2193291712a7158f353052d87 (as in your example above)

Is there a fix?  (I downloaded and installed the current version over the top of the prior version a day or two back. Running Win XP Pro SP3 with the other security apps in my signature)

a2trust.dat: fcbaeda2193291712a7158f353052d87 - It's the same MD5 hash of your example.

a2wl.dat: ff88d2f07212338473d26c1a879f99eb - different from your example but it's the same MD5 hash reported by Blues.

a2trust.dat & a2wl.dat were both created on 19/10.

Also, I checked my father's PC and OA is having the same issue. OS and security software are the same for both the PCs.

Apart from that issue OA is working flawlessly. [OT] As for log keeping problems, I don't know if it could be somehow related to this update problem but the "purely cosmetic" issue reported here is still present in the current version. [OT]

For what it's worth, I looked at my wife's OA Free version "1331" (which has not yet been updated to the latest version) and her files haven't been updated since the 25th of October when we got home after being away since the 20th.

The most recent file was created on the 19th as reported above. So the issue is not restricted to the most recent version of OA Free.

it sounds like a possible server side issue...

Interestingly, the a2trust.dat file on my wife's version of OA Free shows "last modified" September 28, 2011.

The a2wl.dat file shows "last modified" 10/25/11 at the time and hour that I rebooted the machine after its being off since the morning of the 20th.

(She is running XP Pro SP3)

(Both my files show "modified" 10/19/2011 at 1.42 pm)

Hopefully one of the many beta testers will be able to work with you to help nail down why this issue is arising for some of us out of the blue on the two most recent versions of OA Free.

Although the issue seems to be not strictly related to the latest version - see this post by Blues about version "1331" for details - I tried a clean install of OA on my father's PC to no avail - and it was a pain...

I will not be able to check the updates on that PC in the next days though.

You should be able to get updates now and there should also be a new update to 5.1.1.1395 :). Be aware that the update server will most likely be a bit busy in the next 24 hours. So you may want to consider just downloading a new setup :).

Thank you very much, Fabian.

On my father's laptop, OA Free automatically downloaded the new program update and asked to reboot the system in order to install the new version.

After the update process was completed, I immediately checked the a2trust.dat and a2wl.dat files:

a2trust.dat: 19/10/2011

a2wl.dat: 1/11/2011

At that point I manually downloaded and run the new setup over the same version of OA Free.

Now both files seems to be updated: 1/11/2011 11.33 (considering the date and time I guess those two updated files come with the installation package though).

Anyway, I'll manually check for blacklist/whitelist updates in the next few days and see what happens.

Hi Nick,

Confirm the same problem here.

1. OA Free automatically downloaded the new program update and asked to reboot the system in order to install the new version.

=> a2trust.dat: 01/11/2011 - a2wl.dat: 02/11/2011

2. manually downloaded and run the new setup over the same version of OA Free.

=> a2trust.dat: 01/11/2011 - a2wl.dat: 02/11/2011

3. Uninstall OA Free, clean remnants with Ccleaner, then manually downloaded and run the new setup (v5.1.1.1395 ) of OA Free (clean install)

=> a2trust.dat: 01/11/2011 - a2wl.dat: 02/11/2011

a2trust.dat: 28 KB

a2wl.dat: 318 KB

With version 5.1

updates was just fine.

Update problems started with version 5.1.1.1383

Any chance one of you could grant me access to his machine so I can debug it further? Because when I try to update on my test systems everything works just fine.

Hi Fabian,

I' m an old OA user (since Tall Emu & Mike Nash).

Please let me know if you need a debug log.

Please read post #15.

Same story again. :(

1) What's the MD5 (or SHA1) hash of the file you received via the updates?

2) What's the MD5 (or SHA1) hash of the file you got after performing an upgrade install?

As for today, OA has updated only the a2wl.dat file:

- a2trust.dat: 01/11/2011

MD5: fcbaeda2193291712a7158f353052d87 - which is also the MD5 hash of the file I "received" via the upgrade. Unfortunately I've lost the other information Andrey asked for, however this file has never changed since my OP, it's the same from 19/10: see here.

- a2wl.dat: 2/11/2011

MD5: d5cac90e622854cf82044e6bad5607f4

*Both files are identical to those reported by Anon.

Update problems started with version 5.1.1.1383

and continue now with the latest version 5.1.1.1395

Hi Anon, the issue does not seem to be strictly limited to the latest versions - see this post by Blues about version "1331" for details.

True.

My bad and I have to correct my phrase:

"With version 5.1, updates was just fine. Then, update problems started."

Hey, I did not mean to correct you. Honestly I've no idea what happened. In one of my previous posts I just assumed it was a server-side issue...
