commandline scanner ver 6.5.0.5 returns incorrect errorlevel

Recommended Posts

Product: Commandline Scanner version 6.5.0.5, contained in EEK version 2.0.0.7

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit, SP1

Other Security: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012, Windows Firewall, KeyScrambler version 2.9.1.0 (plugin for Firefox)

Here is a Windows bat file that I have used successfully to scan folders with version 5.0.0.19 of the Commandline Scanner.

"C:\somepath\a2cmd.exe" /f=%1 /h /r /a /n /log="C:\logpath\Log.txt"
echo %errorlevel%
if not errorlevel 1 goto end
notepad "C:\path\Malware Notification.txt"
:end
pause

I observe the errorlevel after scanning a folder that contains the eicar.com test file.

Version 5.0.0.19 returns 1 and version 6.5.0.5 returns 0 but both versions show that an infection was detected.

The documentation says the result code should be 1 when an infection is detected.

This seems like a bug in CLS version 6.5.0.5.

Thanks for your attention.

Thank you for reporting about this issue. It will be fixed today, and new build of the command line scanner will be available in online update after that.

Thank you for your quick reply and correction.

Online update gives CLS version 6.5.0.6 only if "Install beta updates" is selected in the update configuration settings.

This version gives the correct result code when an infection is detected.

However, I believe there are still problems with some scan parameters (/h, /f). I will start another thread.

yes, you are right. at this moment new build of the scanner is available only as beta, but it will be moved to stable after a while.
